Rachel Sandison, OBE, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement), University of Glasgow
Rachel is responsible for leading the University of Glasgow’s strategy for external engagement covering an integrated portfolio of International Policy and Partnerships; Marketing and Communications; Brand and Reputation Management; Transnational Education; Student Recruitment and Admissions; Widening Access and Lifelong Learning; Development and Alumni Relations; and Civic Engagement. Rachel is also the University’s Sanctuary Champion.
Rachel is the University’s Universitas 21 network Senior Leader, a Board member of the University’s European network, The Guild, and the University lead for the CIVIS European University Alliance, thereby supporting the activity of a global group of research-intensive universities.
Rachel is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, a Global Trustee and chair-elect of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Scottish Commissioner for Fulbright US-UK, whilst also contributing to several sector advisory boards both at home and overseas.
Andrew Bird, Chief Marketing Officer/PVC, Southampton Solent University and Chair of the British Universities International Liaison Association (BUILA)
With over 20 years’ experience in higher education marketing, communications and recruitment, Andrew is passionate about the role that education has in supporting positive change at an individual, institutional and regional level.
Having previously worked at Oxford Brookes University, the University of Southampton and Bournemouth University, while also representing the higher education sector on a range of Boards and Advisory Groups, Andrew has a proven track record of creating impactful solutions aligned to each organisation’s strategic objectives.
In his current role as Chief Marketing Officer/PVC at Southampton Solent University, Andrew provides strategic leadership for developing, championing and implementing the University strategies for Recruitment, Reputation, Internationalisation and Communication. His responsibilities include ensuring the University’s strategic planning structure meets the needs of all stakeholders across the institution to deliver plans that fully align with the university mission and strategy.
Andrew is currently Chair of the British Universities International Liaison Association (BUILA), a member-led organisation that represents and supports our 150+ UK university network to achieve their international goals.
